Signs you need a denture

Most of us associate dentures with the old age. Dentures are actually replacements for your current set of teeth. Most people are susceptible to losing their teeth as they grow old and hence dentures now have a connotation with old age, but this is far from the truth. As per today, over 20 million women who have crossed the age of forty use partial or full dentures, and this number is estimated to increase by nearly four million in the year 2020.

However, remember that dentures are not your only solution. They can be avoided if you practice good hygiene.

Signs you need a denture
However, here are some of the signs that show that you may need dentures quite soon:

You do not visit the dentist regularly for your routine checkups
Visiting the dentists should be a part of your regular routine. Bi-annual visits would keep gum diseases and tooth decay at bay. It is only when the cavities become too drastic that you need a replacement for teeth, hence needing dentures.

Your teeth have too many gaps or are really loose fitting
As per dental health experts, having loose teeth may actually mean that you have advanced gum disease. Even having too many gaps would result in need of periodontal problems, which is when you may need to get dentures.

You suffer through chronic toothaches
Having severe toothaches or pain also indicates that you may need to get yourself a pair of new dentures. Tooth pain generally characterizes the presence of decay in the center of the teeth, and sometimes the teeth may need to be extracted.

Your gums are red, swollen, or they keep bleeding
Even irritated gums can indicate that you are in for periodontal disease or even at the early stage of gingivitis. Gum disease is also more or less the cause of roughly seventy percent of teeth loss cases in adults. So, get it checked and ensure that you do not have to get a new set of dentures.

You have a missing tooth
All our teeth work together to ensure that functions like chewing are carried out properly. However, when even one tooth goes missing, it can put pressure on the other teeth. Hence, most dentists recommend that people who have lost over two teeth should get dentures in order to provide support to the other teeth.

Some foods do not go down well with you
While sensitivity is a whole different ball game, if you feel that you face difficulty in eating some foods because of gum disease, cracked tooth, or cavities, it is possible that you may need dentures. However, it is only when you have long-term problems that really damage the teeth that you should consider getting dentures.

Additionally, if you constantly feel like you need to hide your smile, you should definitely consider the right dental treatment. Also, dentures come in many different categories, so just need to find the right fit for you.
