The Ford Expedition was introduced in 1996 as a large SUV. The EL stands for Extended Length, and the Ford Expedition EL offers more interior space than the standard models. The Ford Expedition EL has about eight cubic feet more passenger volume and a total volume of 168.3 cubic feet. It has almost double the trunk space of a regular Expedition SUV at 42.6 cubic feet right behind the third row. You can also extend the cargo space up to 130.8 cubic feet.

Common standard features of the Ford Expedition EL
Each of the five trims has some upgrades and additional features over the other, but some standard features common to all include 18-inch alloy wheels, a 28-gallon fuel tank, a backup camera, cruise control, Ford MyKey programmable key, front airbags, antilock brakes, electronic stability system, heated side mirrors, power driver’s seat, power-adjustable pedals, rear parking sensors, rear-wheel drive, remote keyless entry, and stability control.

Engine and transmission
Ford made very few changes to its previous Ford Expedition EL model. All the trims are powered by the 3.5 liters Ecoboost V-6 engines, making 365 horsepower at 5,000 RPM and torque of 420 lb. ft at 2,500 RPM. It has a six-speed automatic transmission. All its five trims are available in both FWD and AWD. They come with double wishbone suspension in the front, multi-link suspension in the rear, and optional air suspension. Additionally, the Expedition EL has a towing capacity of 6000 pounds.

Fuel economy
The Ford Expedition EL has a fuel tank capacity of 34 gallons and runs on gasoline fuel. Its fuel economy is EPA of 15 MPG in the city and 19 on the highway.

Convenience features
Ford has included multiple features that make the ride comfortable for both the driver and passengers. They have provided maximum comfort and legroom for passengers in the second and third rows and the driver to help them navigate a large and powerful SUV. The Ford Expedition EL has received outstanding 5-star safety ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). While standard features are available in all trims, some advanced features are available only for the higher-end trims. They include blindspot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, front, side, and rear driver and passenger airbags, cruise control, vehicle Anti-Theft System, front parking sensors, rear parking aid, 4-wheel ABS, 4-wheel Disc brakes, brake assist, Electronic stability control

Infotainment and connectivity features
The Ford Expedition EL has an updated infotainment system, except that it is impossible to integrate with Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. Other key features available (based on the trims) include AM/FM Stereo, CD and MP3 player Player, HD Radio, satellite radio, Bang & Olufsen Premium Audio System with 12-speaker, optional entertainment system, hands-free communication systems, wireless cell phone hook-up, navigation system, and rear seat audio controls.
